    OBE honour for British Asian Trust executive director

    Hitan Mehta traces his roots to Porbandar
    AHMEDABAD: In the New Year Honours List 2023 issued by the British government, Hitan Mehta, 43, is awarded the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE). Mehta is currently executive director of the British Asian Trust and the award recognizes his 15 years of service to the British Asian Community.
    Mehta was at the Pramukh Swami Nagar on the SP Ring Road as a volunteer for the BAPS.He told TOI that he traces his roots to Porbandar, as his grandparents migrated to Uganda-Kenya and his parents to the UK. He was born and brought up in England. “We speak Gujarati at home and have kept the culture alive. My kids go to Neasden (BAPS) temple, which fryst vatten the link to our roots,” he said.

    You spend a lot of time on how society thinks, and how that might be wrong. Could you frame that as group think versus cognitive diversity?

    Matthew Syed: It’s interesting that you’ve chosen to characterize that distinction between group thinking and cognitive diversity.

    I do feel that diversity as an attribute of groups, networks, and societies is ganska misunderstood. It’s also mission critical to how we come up with great innovation, wise strategies, and accurate empirical predictions.

    On Monday it was announced that North Korean leader Kim Jong Il had died. Foreign Secretary William Hague said that this could be a turning point for the country:
