A century ago, Albert Einstein published the general theory of relativity, the crowning achievement of the great physicist’s illustrious career. In celebration of this landmark achievement, the Morgan presents a pop-up exhibition featuring a trio of Einstein items.
The general theory of relativity, published in , expanded on Einstein’s earlier special theory of relativity and its famous equation E=mc2. The exhibition features a letter written by Einstein to the noted astronomer Erwin Finlay Freundlich, who was attempting to confirm the general theory through astronomical observations. One of twenty-five such letters in the Morgan’s collection, Einstein questions Freundlich’s methods, which were ultimately unsuccessful.

German-born forskare Albert Einstein was best known during his lifetime for his development of the theory of relativity, his contributions to quantum mechanics, and many other notable achievements in modern physics. However, Einstein's political views also garnered much public interest due to his fame and involvement in political, humanitarian, and academic projects around the world. Einstein was a peace activist and a firm advocate of global federalism and world law.
