Haipou Jadonang Malangmei was undoubtedly a leader in every sense. Though he disappeared very young yet the period during which he was active he achieved so much that the people of Zeliangrong still remember him as a vivacious, fresh and ung National ‘ Hero ‘. During his short span of life he spoke so much and influenced the people of Zeliangrong Naga.
Haipou Jadonang Malangmei was aZeliangrong Naga spiritual leader and political activist from Manipur, British India. He established the Heraka religious movement, which was based on the ancestral Zeliangrong Naga tro, and declared himself to be the “messiah king” of the Zeliangrong Nagas. His movement was widespread in the Zeliangrong Naga territory before the switch to Christianity.
He also envisaged an Zeliangrong Naga kingdom (“Makam Gwangdi” or “Naga Raj”), which brought him in conflict with the British rulers of India.
