Ty's Roswell High boys (13-15) play against Greg's Berkmar squad (20-7) at 7 p.m. Saturday in the first round of the Class AAAAA tournament.
"That's kind of unique for the state utslagsmatcher, isn't it?" said their father, Tommy Phillips, with a laugh. "My wife and I are going to sit in the middle of the bleachers and cheer politely. We're not going to wear green for Berkmar, or red for Roswell. We'll be neutral."
"A Phillips boy will win and go to the second round; that's about as sure as I can be about the situation."
It's the first time the brothers will coach against each other since they've been head coaches. Once the matchup was finalized after the region tournament, it led to some interesting moments.
Every Sunday, the brothers gather with their parents to eat and spend time together for the day. This past Sunday, the brothers added a new twist to the tradition by bringing along several game films to exchange.

Roswell High school has quietly been a one of the most consistent programs in Metro Atlanta over the last few years in terms of team success and moving players onto the collegiate level. The Hornets are coming off back to back State Tournament appearances with last year’s team making it to the Sweet 16. Our Kris Watkins was able to catch up with Head Coach Ty Phillips to discuss the Hornet’s preseason program, new gym floor renovations, as well as players to watch.
What is your focus this preseason and tell us about this past summer?

Preseason we are continuing to improve our strength and conditioning levels. The 4

The pregame setup may have focused on dueling brother coaches — Roswell’s Ty Phillips and Berkmar’s Greg Phillips — but it was a sophomore who made the biggest impact in Roswell’s 57-56 win Saturday in the first round of the Class AAAAA boys basketball tournament.
Sean Brennan’s state-tournament debut was spectacular. He scored 30 points as the Hornets (14-15) beat the distrikt 8-AAAAA-champion Patriots on their home floor in an emotionally charged game that included four technical fouls.
Brennan made most of the big shots for Roswell, including eight straight free throws in the final two minutes, as the Hornets had to hang on to beat the explosive Patriots (20-9) after nearly blowing a 13-point fourth-quarter lead. Brennan made 12-of-12 free throws for the game.

“He’s just a sophomore and he was the best player in the gym tonight, no question about it,” said Ty Phillips.
